Common questions
Citizens of visa waiver countries need an NZeTA, except Australian citizens. Australian permanent residents also need one. The eligible nationalities are:
All EU member states (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania: citizens only; Portugal: only with the right to live permanently), Andorra, Argentina, Bahrain, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Hong Kong (HKSAR or British National (Overseas) passports), Iceland, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Macao (Macao SAR passports), Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Monaco, Norway, Oman, Qatar, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan (permanent residents), United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom (citizens and British passport holders with the right to reside permanently), United States, Uruguay, Vatican City.
The NZeTA is an electronic travel authorization, not a visa. Its application process is much simpler and faster than for regular visas: you only need your passport and a recent photograph to request it. At check-in or on arrival, you may also be asked for proof of onward travel and enough money for your stay.

Yes, all eligible travelers need their own NZeTA, including babies and children.
It’s not a good idea to apply for an NZeTA and travel to New Zealand if your passport is about to expire. Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave New Zealand. This digital authorization is linked to the passport you use in your application and, if it expires, so does your NZeTA, which would otherwise be valid for 2 years. It would be best to renew your passport in advance and apply for your NZeTA once you have the new one.
