Common questions
Yes. Since January 2024, Kenya no longer issues traditional visas or visa-on-arrival. The eTA is now the only way for most travelers to get pre-approved entry.
No. Citizens of East African Community countries (Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, Burundi, DR Congo) are exempt, along with citizens of most other African nations. Somalia and Libya are the exceptions: their citizens still need an eTA. Citizens of some Caribbean, Pacific and other non-African countries are also exempt. Everyone else needs an eTA.
The Kenya eTA is generally valid for a single entry. If you briefly visit Burundi, DR Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania or Uganda, it stays valid for re-entry into Kenya. For any other country, you’ll need a new eTA to return, plus that country’s own entry permits.
Yes, the eTA covers both tourism and business visits, along with other short-term purposes like visiting family.
No. Every child, including infants, needs their own eTA. It’s not covered under a parent’s application and must be applied for separately.
