Laos visa policy & requirements
Most visitors to Laos must obtain a visa, unless they are citizens of one of the exempt countries. For everyone else, there are two main options: the eVisa, which you apply for online before you travel, or a visa on arrival, available at major airports and land border crossings. Both cover one stay of up to 30 days.
A few nationalities are not eligible for either the eVisa or the visa on arrival and must obtain a visa through a Laotian embassy or consulate before traveling.
Additionally, from September 1, 2025, all travelers entering or leaving Laos must complete a digital arrival and departure form online before crossing the border. Make sure you complete this within 3 days of your planned arrival date.

Yes, you can apply for a tourist visa of the same characteristics as the eVisa (single-entry, 30 days maximum stay). You will need to head to the specific visa on arrival lane at the airport. Be advised that waiting times might be long, especially during the high season.
It is worth noting that you will be forced to apply for a visa on arrival if you show up holding an eVisa at the wrong entry point. If that happens, you will need to pay the visa fees again and you could be exposed to unexpected delays or a refusal.

You only need a personal photograph and your valid passport to apply for the Laos eVisa.
Yes. All foreign travelers must complete the Lao Digital Immigration Form (LDIF) 3 days before their arrival and 3 days before departure. This means that the form is filled out two separate times. The LDIF will ask you for passport and travel details, and to upload a picture of the passport.
The Laos arrival card does not replace visa requirements. If your nationality is neither restricted nor visa-exempt, you will need to present an eVisa on top of the LDIF to the border authorities.
